Statement from Vital for Colorado Regarding Polis Developments:
Stand With Us

Vital for Colorado, a grass-roots statewide organization representing over 2,700 small businesses that support a vibrant energy economy, is calling on Representative Jared Polis and Coloradans for Safe & Clean Energy – the campaign supporting Polis’s initiatives — to stand with those seeking to continue supporting Colorado’s robust and nationally recognized system of energy regulation.

“This agreement announced today by Governor Hickenlooper brought us the resolution our coalition requested two weeks ago - the withdrawal of ballot initiatives proposed by Congressman Polis and affirmation that the best way forward is to continue honoring the robust regulatory stakeholder process,” said Peter Moore, Chair of Vital for Colorado.

At a news conference this morning, Governor Hickenlooper announced that a framework had been reached whereby Initiatives #88 and #89 would be withdrawn and a stakeholder process put in place to continue working on the critical issues of how to best manage energy development in Colorado.

“From the outset of this situation, Vital for Colorado members have been seeking a sound, sensible and certain framework for how to regulate oil and gas in Colorado while at the same time honoring the robust regulations we already have in place,” said Moore. “Ballot measures that engrave regulations in the state constitution represent the exact wrong approach. We are asking Congressman Polis to stand with us and stand up for the state regulations that are a national example.”

On July 28, 2014, Vital for Colorado published an open letter to Congressman Polis demanding he withdraw his measures.

“One of the life-bloods of our economy is hanging in the balance,” said Moore.
