Prop 112 Opposition

A massive coalition from across the Colorado economy and across the political spectrum has formed to defeat Proposition 112. Even the candidates for governor this year – Jared Polis (D) and Walker Stapleton (R) – agree that Prop 112 must be defeated, despite having very different views about energy.

The facts simply don’t support Prop 112’s ban on energy production. Studies from the Hickenlooper administration and Colorado business groups also show it will devastate our state economy. The profoundly negative impacts of Prop 112 include:

  • A huge oil and natural gas development ban covering most of the State of Colorado, including 85% of state and private land
  • The loss of almost 150,000 jobs, with 77% of layoffs taking place outside the energy industry, in sectors like health care, construction, hotels, restaurants, retail, local government and more
  • The cumulative loss of $7 billion to $9 billion in state and local tax revenue between 2019 and 2030 – hurting schools, public safety funding and other essential services. By 2030, the annual loss would exceed $1 billion per year
  • Between $169 billion and $217 billion in economic losses across the state economy over the next 12 years. By 2030, the annual loss would exceed $26 billion per year
